Barely more than one year after the release of the band’s debut album “Nebulae”, which caught quite some attention on rock, progressive and metal press and fans, Heylel deliver their second effort “Flesh”. In “Flesh”, the band shows a less experimental and synthesized sound but rather rely more on guitars, giving the band a more straightforward rock sound. This doesn’t mean the ambiance and odd structures on “Nebulae” were completely lost, as they are still pretty noticeable but, contrary to it’s predecessor ,“Flesh” isn’t a concept album. It’s a collection of songs that show a more raw and direct approach to music.
"Heylel made a very strong debut album of an international level..."
Background Magazine
“If Heylel develops along the lines of this album, their future might be very bright. I for one look forward to that..."
Dutch Progressive Rock Page
Just like “Nebulae”, this EP was recorded and mixed in Caverna and Lucifer’s Studio, which are Narciso and Filipe’s own personal studios. However, this time production was delivered to Damien Sequeira, more specialized in the kind of sound the band searched for. There are minor lineup changes, as the band returned to its original three member form, with Ana Batista (vocals), Narciso Monteiro (guitars, bass, keyboards) and Filipe Braga (drums and percussion). Paulo Rodrigues, singer in the heavy metal band Debunker, was invited to record backing vocals on the first song “Saints” and main vocals on “Denial”, providing a harder and more intense delivery to the male singing parts. "The creativity Heylel serves leaves the listener craving more...."
Guarding Liberty Voice
"Nebulae is an experience worth immersing yourself in, over and over again..."
